Online Poker Strategy
Poker experts agree that successful poker is 50% patience. The more patiently
a player can wait for a good hand to get them started in the round, the more successful he or she will become. The most common mistake is to not fold when you should. Some people, perhaps driven by ego, will raise the pot very high with a relatively weak hand. This is obviously an unintelligent move in poker.
Some players compare playing poker to driving a car. Though you can
learn the game relatively easy, you must constantly be improving your game play.
If you accept that you know how to drive a car or play poker and that is it, you
will not be a terribly successful player. Another aspect of the driving analogy
is speed. When a driver of a car is on the highway, in the middle of the day
with good weather and little traffic, he is able to drive more aggressively
while still maintaining a high level of safety. If the driver were on a dark
twisty road at 3:00 in the morning, things would obviously be very different.
When you are dealt your cards you are experiencing some sort of driving
conditions. The hand is fundamentally good, ok, or bad. You must bet, or drive
accordingly. Good poker players know how to be aggressive when the game warrants
it yet they also know when to play conservatively and slow down to catch up.
